Oh, The Places You’ll Go

When I graduated from High School, someone gave me a copy of Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Ever since, it has been one of my very favorite books. I know it’s a favorite for a lot of people, but getting it at graduation was really impactful for me. I was heading off to college 800 miles away. I was excited and scared and anxious all at the same time. It was going to be a huge change! And it turned out so fun and rewarding.

Fast forward ?? number of years later with the invention of Pinterest. I joined back when I only had a small handful of friends on and the same ideas kept circulating around. I came across an idea and never re-pinned it. I wish I could give credit to whomever came up with this idea, but I haven’t been able to re-find the source.

Here’s the idea:

Have each of your child’s teachers sign a copy of Oh, The Places You’ll Go! and when they graduate from High School, give it to them as a gift.

Isn’t that an awesome idea? My kids are at the perfect age to start. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to go back and get teachers to sign if I had, say, High Schoolers. My daughter is in second grade this year and my older son is in Kindergarten. They’ve gone to the same school, so I can easily go back 2 years and get my daughter’s other teachers to sign. Then, all I have to do is remember to take the book to parent teacher conference each year and get the teacher to sign.

I really think my kids will love this priceless gift when they’re older.
