A couple of week’s ago, I guest posted this at The Thriftiness Miss. Just in case you missed it, here ya go! Happy weekend everyone!
A while ago, I bought a pumpkin trio from this website and I have been dying to get them ready for Halloween! I think you could probably find something similar at a craft store. Here’s what you need to make your own:
A set of pumpkins
Craft Paint & sponge or brush
Orange and Green Glitter
and Mod Podge
My pumpkins came with the stems separated. I was originally going to glue them into the hole at the top of the pumpkin. But, knowing myself, I couldn’t resist putting the stem in the hole. Well, it stuck. Completely. And instead of just leaving one alone, I had to try it on the second pumpkin. Yes, it did in fact stick again. So, before I could get tempted and see if the third one would stick also, I hurried and took a picture with one stem left out. But, in my rush, I forgot to add the mod podge to the photo. Oh, well! I’m human, I guess! Well, it worked out easier to have the stems already in before starting. So, anyway…on to the project.
First, you need to paint the pumpkins orange. I did two coats.
I didn’t paint the bottoms. Also, it doesn’t matter if the stems get orange on them. In fact, it’s probably better if they do. After they’re painted, let them completely dry.
Now whip out the mod podge and add a coat to the front of the pumpkins, being careful not to get into the crevices.
Then, sprinkle the orange glitter all over the front.
Then of course, dump the excess glitter. It’s just like being in elementary school all over again! Why don’t I do glitter on every project?
After that part is all dry, put some mod podge on the stem, being careful not to get any on the rest of the pumpkin. BAD PHOTO WARNING! {I am obviously not a photographer! I took like 10 pictures and every one of them was focused past the pumpkin – so it’s a little blurry. Life does go on, I guess.}.
Then, sprinkle and dump the green glitter.
Give them a good while to dry completely. Now, you can leave it there if you want, but it you’re worried about the glitter coming off and making your shelf glittery as well, here’s a fun trick to getting glitter to stay put.
Grab a can of clear spray paint.
And spray an light coat over the glitter.
And that’s it! They’re finished and ready to display!
I love glitter! It makes me happy.

OMG, I think I can use glitter again! Was always hesitant of using it because of the mess it, so I thought, inevitably left behind. Thank you for sharing that clear spray tip! Maybe your not the first to do this, but you’re the first one I’ve seen! Great pumpkins, too! I’m just now getting into the Halloween crafting spirit, dunno if I’ll actually have time to make anything. Hope your having a great weekend!
